Naming Ceremonies
Celebrating the joy of children into your family
One of my most favorite celebrations is when a child is welcomed into a new family with a naming ceremony. Whether this is through birth or adoption, it can be a life moment we can over look to formally mark unless we look at more traditional religious events such as christenings. What I love about naming’s is that they don’t have to link to a religion, they can have whatever content you would like to welcome your child into your family.
Naming Ceremonies can take many different forms and happen at any given time. It could be a celebration which happens at the start of the child’s life (after formal registration) but can also happen when the child is older so they can participate more actively in the ceremonial aspects and might even hold childhood memories of the celebration throughout their life. It could also involve all siblings rather than individual children. I chose to name my own 3 children in this way and we had a naming ceremony for all of them when they were 7, 4 and 2.
Naming ceremonies are about taking time to celebrate your child being part of this world and showing a circle of support for the child among close family and friends. The content can be completely tailored and personalized for the family with imaginative storytelling, music and interactive elements to create a unique and memorable event.
